Alcohol PSPO Public Consultation 2024

The safety and well-being of our community is a priority for everyone in Milton Keynes. To help us maintain a vibrant, secure, and welcoming environment, we need your input on an important issue affecting our public spaces. The Alcohol PSPO (Public Spaces Protection Order) is up for review, and we want to hear from you! 

 

 

The Alcohol PSPO empowers police and other authorised officers to address anti-social behaviour linked to public drinking. This is not a blanket ban on alcohol in public spaces but a focused effort to ensure our parks, streets, and communal areas remain safe for all. Under the PSPO, if someone is causing trouble due to drinking, they can be asked to stop or surrender their alcohol. Non-compliance can result in a £100 fixed penalty notice.

The PSPO aims to balance the freedom to enjoy alcohol responsibly in public spaces with the need to curb behaviours that negatively impact our community. Targeted Approach: The PSPO specifically addresses anti-social behaviour related to drinking, not drinking itself. This ensures that responsible enjoyment of public spaces is preserved. 

Community Safety: By enabling authorities to act against disruptive behaviour, the PSPO helps maintain a secure environment for all residents and visitors. 

Collaborative Effort: The PSPO supports the Milton Keynes City Council, Great Linford Parish Council, The Parks Trust, and Thames Valley Police in working together to tackle anti-social behaviour, making our community a better place to live and visit.
