Supporting Our Armed Forces Community – August 2025 Update
Following the formal signing of the Armed Forces Covenant in June, Great Linford Parish Council has been working to embed our commitment into everyday practice—and we’re proud to share what we’ve achieved so far.
Covenant Logo and Support Page Now Live
The official Armed Forces Covenant logo has now been added to our website, symbolising our pledge to support serving personnel, veterans, and their families.
We’ve also launched a dedicated Armed Forces Support page, where visitors can find useful links, local and national resources, and details about how GLPC is upholding the Covenant in our parish.
Apply for a Veteran ID Card
A HM Armed Forces Veteran Card is a way to prove that you served in the UK armed forces. The card can make it quicker and easier to apply for support as a veteran. Applying is free and straightforward.
To complete your application, you’ll need the following:
Your service number from your most recent period of service
Your National Insurance number
The approximate dates you started and ended your service (they don’t need to be exact)
A recent digital passport-style photo showing your head and shoulders
Please note: You can only apply online if you're applying for yourself.
If you're applying on behalf of someone else, you’ll need to apply by post instead. It’s free to apply.

MK Armed Forces Support Directory
A list of services offered in Milton Keynes and adjoining areas can be found in this Armed Forces Support Directory. The directory has up-to-date details and links to service providers.
Introducing MK Armed Forces Champion
Councillor Paul Trendall, Deputy Mayor of Milton Keynes, serves as the city’s official Armed Forces Champion
In this role, he advocates for serving personnel, veterans, and their families—raising awareness of their needs and strengthening links between the local military community and public services.
He represents their interests at council level, promotes projects and initiatives—such as flag‑raisings, support networks, and remembrance events and works to ensure the Armed Forces Covenant is upheld across the city.

Honouring VJ Day – 15 August 2025
The 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ Day), marking the end of the Second World War, takes place on Friday 15 August 2025. Everyone is encouraged to participate in a national two-minute silence at noon to mark the anniversary.
You can read more about how VJ Day is commemorated nationally here: British Legion VJ Day
Locally, Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council will be hosting a VJ Day 80 event in Wolverton Square. There will be live entertainment from vintage singer Lily Taylor Ward. In addition, there will also be a ceremony, with support from Churches Together and local cadet groups.
Local Connections for Veterans
We want to highlight the Milton Keynes Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club, a welcoming space for veterans to connect with others in the local area.
Find out more here: AFVBC Milton Keynes
Also based locally is the Blue Light Hub Armed Forces Walk-In Support Point, offering practical help and a safe space for those with a military background.
Held on the third Wednesday of every month from 10:00 to 12:00, the sessions provide information and guidance on a wide range of services tailored for the Armed Forces community—including healthcare, mental health support, housing assistance, employment opportunities, and much more.
Next Session: Wednesday 20th August 10:00 – 12:00
