Great Linford Parish Council to Sign Armed Forces Covenant
Great Linford Parish Council is proud to announce that it will be signing the Armed Forces Covenant at 18:30 on Wednesday, 25th June, just before the Full Council Meeting. This formal commitment reinforces the Parish Council’s support for current and former members of the armed forces and their families.

Cllr Christine Onan said:
“We are fortunate in our parish to have a strong local military presence, including the 261 Squadron, 158 Regiment Royal Logistics Corps (Army Reserves Centre) in Blakelands, as well as an active Army Cadet Force. These organisations make a significant contribution to the life of our community.”

Captain Johanna Hrycak will sign the Covenant on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. Captain Hrycak works in a medical capacity at Milton Keynes University Hospital four days a week and spends one day a week supporting the military community through her role with Milton Keynes City Council (MKCC).
Signing for GLPC will be Chair, Cllr Janet Brindley. The Parish Council is also honoured to welcome Deputy Mayor Cllr Paul Trendall, a long-serving veteran of the Royal Green Jackets and the Armed Forces Champion for MKCC.

What is the Armed Forces Covenant?

Cllr Onan explains:
“The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation to treat those who serve, or have served, and their families with fairness and respect—especially in areas like housing, education, healthcare, employment, and welfare.”
For GLPC, this pledge focuses on signposting—ensuring military personnel and their families are directed to the right support services. The Council is actively compiling resources covering MOD recruitment, family welfare, and veteran support.

Cllr Onan added:
“We hope to connect with other parish councils to share ideas and best practices. In future, this collaboration could evolve into shared training to strengthen understanding and delivery of the Covenant’s aims.”

Why This Matters
Military families bring valuable skills, discipline, and a strong sense of community spirit. Their contributions—whether through work, volunteering, or everyday involvement—positively shape our local area. GLPC is committed to making sure they feel welcome and supported.
Once signed, the Covenant will be formally registered and listed on the official Armed Forces Covenant website.
