COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER TO TACKLE LONELINESS AND FUEL POVERTY THIS WINTER

Great Linford Parish Council has announced two new community projects to tackle social isolation and fuel poverty in Autumn and Winter.
The first project to launch is a Community Hub at Conniburrow Community Centre on Tuesday mornings.
In addition to providing a warm, safe space to meet, the Community Hub will bring together a range of activities and services for local people all under one roof. Conniburrow Community Hub is a collaboration between Great Linford Parish Council, MK Melting Pot and Conniburrow Children's Centre. The Hub will open its doors from 9.30 till 1 and is open to all residents of Great Linford Parish.
On Tuesday mornings Conniburrow Children's Centre will run activity sessions for children and offer employability training and advice for parents from 9.30 - 11. There will be an opportunity to get something warm to eat and drink at the Wellbeing Café from 10 until 12, catered for by MK Melting Pot, and from October, the Community Hub will also offer free advice sessions, including the opportunity to speak with an advisor from Citizen Advice.
The second community project, which will start in October, is a Community Social Club at Great Linford Parish Meeting Room. The Community Social Club will run on a Tuesday afternoon and will offer residents a warm space to play board games, try their hand at arts and crafts and enjoy great conversation. There will also be hot food and drinks available from Great Linford Community Hub.
Tommy Hayes, Community Liaison Officer for Great Linford Parish Council, said "Winter can be a difficult time for people, in addition to increased social isolation that this season can bring, this winter will see the added pressure of financial difficulties due to the rise in heating costs. Great Linford Parish Council wanted to offer people a warm space and an opportunity to get something hot to eat and drink. This has become a real community effort and has been made possible by working with many community partners.”
Conniburrow Community Hub will open from 9.30 till 1 every Tuesday morning from September, and Great Linford Social Club will open from 12 till 4 every Tuesday from October to March. They are open to all, there is no need to book, and the sessions are free to attend.
