thank you CPT frog bench
Thank You to the Community Payback Team for Caring for “What Lies Beneath”
We would like to extend a big thank you to the Community Payback Team for their recent work on one of our most beloved public artworks — the frog bench, officially titled What Lies Beneath, by artist Rob Griffiths.

The bench was recently lightly sanded and treated with a protective wood oil, helping to shield it from UV rays and general wear and tear from being outdoors. This treatment not only prolongs the sculpture's life but also enhances the natural beauty of the oak. While the oil will lighten over time, it continues to provide vital protection to the wood.
A little background on the piece:
What Lies Beneath was carved from Forest of Dean oak by Rob Griffiths, an artist whose work is deeply influenced by the forest and the wildlife that surrounds him. Inspired by canals and the creatures that dwell within them, the sculpture takes the form of a bench adorned with intricate relief carvings representing the food chain in canal ecosystems. Sitting atop it all is a giant frog, peacefully unaware of all that lies beneath.
This beautiful and thought-provoking piece forms part of the Gyosei Art Trail in Great Linford. If you haven’t yet explored the trail or would like to learn more, you can find details on our website here.
