March litter pick update
Community Litter Pick – 1st March 2025
On Saturday, 1st March, we kicked off our first litter pick of 2025, and what a fantastic start it was! Blessed with a bright spring day, over 35 community volunteers gathered at the Great Linford Parish Office, ready to make a difference. Among those joining us were Great Linford Parish Councillors Harvey, Nicholls, Dunn, Jefferies, Allotey, Onan, and Blake, as well as Community Liaison Officer Tommy Hayes, Environment & Facilities Officer Darren Nicholls, and Parish Manager Eirwen Tagg.

Armed with litter-picking equipment, volunteers scoured the local area, collecting an impressive 300 kg of rubbish. As we worked, we noticed the first signs of spring—flowers beginning to bloom, a reminder of the importance of keeping our environment clean and safe for wildlife.
Why Litter Picks Matter
Litter picking not only helps keep our surroundings tidy but also protects wildlife from harm caused by discarded waste. It’s a great way to connect with others in the community, helping to tackle social isolation while exercising and enjoying the feel-good factor of making a positive impact.

Parish Manager Eirwen Tagg commented, “It’s incredible to see so many people come together to improve our local area. Events like these show the power of community spirit.”

Councillor Harvey added, “Keeping our neighbourhood clean benefits everyone, and it’s fantastic to see residents of all ages taking part. A huge thank you to everyone who helped today!”

Resident Feedback
One resident shared, “This is amazing! I have litter-picked with other groups, but here you are treated like a long-lost friend—welcomed and given time at the end to sit, eat, chat, and meet new people. Beautiful!”
Another resident asked where they could get a litter grabber. Their four-year-old enjoyed it so much that they wanted to continue at home to teach him about keeping the local area clean. We advised them that we would be happy to lend them the equipment to encourage him. She hopes to attend many more now that her family has seen how much they enjoyed it!

After a productive morning, volunteers enjoyed well-earned refreshments and reflected on the day’s success.

Join Us for the Next Litter Pick!
Our next litter pick will be in Neath Hill on Saturday, 5th April, where we’ll be taking part in the national Great British Spring Clean. We’ll meet at MacIntyre, Fletchers Mews, Neath Hill, MK14 6HW, at 10:00 am. We hope to see you there—let’s keep up the great work together!
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a difference in our community!
